Am I Blue

Am I Blue

《Am I Blue》
This is a new take on the botanical experimentation series, co-created by photographer Cheuk Lun Lo and floral artist Vanessa. Inspired by the blue tone of the famous jazz piece "Am I Blue," the image of Ophelia drowning in Shakespeare's play, and modern perspectives such as the film "Melancholia," the series explores the contradictions and vitality of depression in today's society, placing flowers within a "blue river." Water represents the silent, invisible, yet pervasive blue oppression and state of mind associated with depression. Flowers, an image directly drawn from Ophelia's narrative, are sustained and evolved here. From initial integrity and beauty, they gradually become scattered and withered. Fire, a warm color surrounded by the cold blue, carries a dual metaphor: it represents the pain and self-consumption of an inner burning anxiety, yet also the hope and vitality that burns brightly in despair. These elements together construct a visual allegory of inner struggle and dilemma. "Am I Blue" is not a dirge of despair. It is a gaze into the inner abyss, an exploration of the delicate balance between sinking and rising, destruction and rebirth.
